Fender

The Fender Stratocaster has been a timeless icon in rock history. It is not surprising as many guitar greats have used it to create enduring sonic masterpieces throughout the years. Perhaps one of the first and arguable the most famous advocate the "Strat" as it is lovingly called, would be Jimi Hendrix. The unmistakeable twang and its alter ego, the acrid, fuzzed out cries of Jimi's Stratocaster would be the birth mother of such hits as "Purple Haze", "Red House" and "Foxy Lady", songs which have been iconic in their own right.

Ironically enough, the Fender Stratocaster was not an original idea in itself but rather a mutation from exisiting guitars in its era. Leo Fender, its creator, initially concentrates on the development of another guitar model, the Telecaster. However, feedbacks from his clients prompted Fender to redesign the Telecaster into an upscale, solid body guitar which invoked the images of American luxury jets in the 1950's. He also would integrate to this guitar a design imitated from a Rickenbacker Bakelite, which was a detachable neck that facilitated easier fabrication and repair.
